Belgium's e-invoicing mandate is already here

From 1st of January 2026, structured electronic invoicing became mandatory for most B2B transactions between Belgian VAT-registered businesses.

That means the conversation is no longer about preparation. Rather, it's about compliance.

PDF invoices alone are no longer sufficient to meet the Belgian B2B e-invoicing requirements

Belgium's approach reflects a broader trend across Europe: Structured invoice data is replacing document-based invoicing.

The focus is shifting from sending invoices as files to exchanging invoice data directly between systems.

For organisations operating in Belgium, the priority is now to ensure:

  • E-invoicing capability
  • ERP integration
  • Peppol connectivity
  • Supplier and customer readiness

The companies that prepared early are already reaping the benefits from more automated invoice handling and reduced manual processing.

For everyone else, the time for planning has passed.

The time for implementation is now.
