B2G e-invoicing becomes mandatory

Suppliers to Austrian federal authorities are required to submit electronic invoices in accordance with Austria's B2G e-invoicing requirements.

Austria has an established e-invoicing framework for transactions with the federal public sector. Suppliers to Austrian federal authorities have been required to submit electronic invoices since 1 January 2014.

For B2B transactions, there is currently no general mandatory e-invoicing requirement. Businesses can use electronic invoicing voluntarily, subject to the applicable VAT and invoicing requirements.

Suppliers providing goods or services to Austrian federal authorities are generally required to submit electronic invoices in accordance with Austria's B2G e-invoicing requirements.

There is currently no general structured e-invoicing mandate for domestic B2B transactions, meaning businesses can continue to choose how they exchange invoices with their private-sector trading partners.

Electronic invoices submitted to Austrian federal authorities must comply with the requirements of the Austrian public-sector e-invoicing system.

Invoices must include the required invoice information as well as relevant references needed by the receiving public authority. Suppliers should therefore ensure that their invoices meet both the applicable technical and content requirements before submission

Electronic invoices to Austrian federal authorities can be submitted through e-Rechnung.gv.at or via the Peppol network.

Peppol can also be used for electronic document exchange between businesses where both trading partners support the network. Austria does not currently operate a general B2B clearance or real-time e-invoicing reporting model.

iEDI supports e-invoicing in Austria and can help businesses exchange structured electronic invoices and other business documents through Peppol.

Businesses can connect their existing ERP and business systems to iEDI without replacing their current setup, helping support both Austrian e-invoicing requirements and electronic document exchange across other international markets.
